Aerobraking is a spaceflight maneuver that reduces the high point of an elliptical orbit (apoapsis) by flying the vehicle through the atmosphere at the low point of the orbit (periapsis). The resulting drag slows the spacecraft.

Just make sure to burn/brake hard enough to stay in duna sphere of influence (SoI) which requires roughly 300m/s delta-V from low PE. Example: Two burns, 300m/s to stay in SoI, then 350m/s to circularize. The limiting factor, which does not apply to KSP, is that the higher atmosphere of bodies isn't well known, and in fact is quite variable over time. If you push aerobraking too far, you've lost the spacecraft, so one has to be cautious. But it can, and it has, been used. How does KSP simulate objects out of focus?

Trajectories can help you with aerobraking. Note that with heavy ships, aerobraking is less effective. That's just the way it is. Lighter ships are more easily slowed by the atmosphere.
